Opal Country

Day 5 Thursday

Another glorious day. The cockies were up early and glad to be alive!

Early start today as we want to get to Lightning Ridge as early as possible as there is a lot to do there. We set off fine but pulled over when a friend we were travelling with had some worrying noises emanating from the engine

After nearly an hour it was decided it Larry was still drive able and would require more attention when we got to Lightning Ridge. So we hop back into Landy and NOTHING. Not a breath of life in the starter motor. Battery fine.

It ended up our friends had to give us a tow start. Something to sort out when we get there

It was so funny when we got to the Opal Caravan park. We were swamped with Landy enthusiasts wanting to solve the starter motor problem. It turned out to be a minor issue with the low tension lead coming odd the solenoid in all the vibrations of the track. I think everyone was disappointed it was such an easy fix!

We set up the wet tent to dry and had some lunch and then took off to see Lightning Ridge. We did a self guided tour of the Walk In mine with Daphne and Peter and had a cuppa afterwards with them which was really nice.

After this we went for a dip in the hot Springs. It was veryyyy hot!

Just as we were leaving a mini bus of suits turned up and were being shown around. It seemed to be some legal proceeding with a lady taking notes with the little machine they have in courtrooms.

Back to caravan park for a shower in the state of the art amenities block and our briefing and tea. Geoff was asked to talk about Landy's history.

The dinner was amazing. It was provided by a restaurant and gave a choice of lamb shanks or stuffed chicken. It had lots of fresh vegetables and jimmy salads and great desserts.

Another lovely day.
